We need your help...
Bedford Interactive are currently developing video toolkit software for dance teachers which will allow them to make their own multimedia resources. We are looking for Dance Teachers / Choreographers who are willing to let us use their dance footage (in the beta testing stage of developing the software) in exchange for a free working copy of FORMotion Phase 1 at the end, with thier video loaded into it. After 20 years of going it alone, and after a few false starts, Bedford Interactive are on the threshold of producing for sale a complete Multimedia Authoring Pack, which will enable any Dance Teacher, in possession of video clips of their dance materials, to employ our techniques for analysing dance video, facilitating their work in ways impossible with older technologies.

During the last period we have published 11 Resource packs, 8 Demonstration DIscs and have found takers in 77 countries across the world. But we have merely scratched the surface in suppling what is needed.

The problem cannot be solved by a single producer. To deliver appropriate materials into the hands of Dance Teachers in a wide variety of cultures, can only occur when there are many, appropriately-equipped producers in all the different cultures, and with their own 'languages' of dance. Since our efforts in 1989, it became clear that the actual teaching of dance had to be down to the teachers on the ground, no central organisation could deliver all appropriate teaching. The answer was to deliver high quality video resources of significant dance works, with immaculate access and sensitive control to enable teachers to deliver what they knew was needed.

Obviously, many more Dance Teachers have to become involved in this task, and if we can deliver to them a Pack which will enable them to pour their own video resources directly into a video control vessel, the required process can begin in earnest. Such DIY resources will start by being developed for their own use by the producing teachers, but the power and efficacy of such materials will soon encourage them to envisage Products for Sale.

FORMotion aims to enable any Dance Teacher to become an Author.

We have already developed many tools for this purpose (see Voctools illustration below), the only major task outstanding is to pack all our current techniques on video preparation into an automated piece of software. BI already do all of these processes manually in house, but we can see how they could be automated. This would empower almost anyone to tackle the creation of IT Resources from their own dance video.

To finish the task we need to ensure that our built-in techniques will accomodate all possible video formats, so that whatever our users possess will be usable. This is where you come in! By sending us your video we can test our software on different file formats, different shooting styles, even different types of dance, so we can see what works and what needs more work, before FORMotion can be released. We have called this research stage of the project Phase 1.

Now, we are aware that Dance Teachers will not lightly allow the use of their materials in such undertakings, so we have decided on a deal which may start the ball rolling.

The Deal: To every Dance Teacher or Choreographer who loans us the use of their video clips for our research, we will produce for free a pack of our tools containing their clips.

We could not do this forever as it takes a lot of work and expense, but the set of participators in this deal will get great benefits from their cooperation, and at the end of the process we will have perfected the tools for teachers to acquire to make their own resources as often as they please! Particpators in Phase 1 will also get a free upgrade when the software becomes commercially available (Phase 2 of the FORMotion project).
