PRACTICAL
WORKSHEET - Love Duo –
initiating and supporting contacts
Appreciation leading to
exploration and composition
1) Study the five examples
of initiating and supporting actions on the disc to categorise them into initiating
or supporting contact movements or both.
2) With a partner, perform
each of the five contact actions to identify its defining characteristics. (For
example, the head in hand support is very lightly supportive of a body part in
contact with the supporter’s body part).
Write a list of the defining characteristics.
3) Take each of these
defining characteristics and explore them to find at least 3 other ways of
performing such initiating/supporting contact actions.
4) Concentrate on the
rhythmic content of each of your contact actions, identifying the use of
impulse, impact and swing to create momentum.
5) Link and mix these
together to create phrase motifs symbolising a soft, caring relationship.
6) Watch the sub-section contact duo in the Love Duo on Disc 1 to note how extensively the couple travels and
try to use as much floor space as possible whilst you perform your contact
actions travelling from place to place.
7) Work with another couple
to share and learn each other’s contact phrases.
8) Compose a short dance
sequence integrating the two sets of phrases appropriately. The sequence could
be based on one of the following ideas:
trust dependency before we part
