Abstract:
This paper firstly outlines the traditional way of teaching Dance using the so-called Professional Model, then goes on to describe as a modern alternative the Resource based Teaching/Learning Approach. Particular emphasis is placed on the work of the authors of this paper over the last 8 years in Bedford Interactive, in bringing in Multimedia and developing appropriate methods for its use. The flexibility and control of multimedia and its relationship to specially designed worksheets is explained in areas from Performance, through Appreciation , to Choreography. Detailed examples were shown, and explained including those based on “White Bird Featherless” by Siobhan Davies. The second section of the paper is a more technical description of the development of methods in dance teaching using multimedia. The basic approach is described, followed by descriptions of the various development sequences, of each of the current technologies. Several demonstrations of the techniques developed by the authors brought the paper to an end.
