Abstract:
This paper is an introduction to the possibilities inherent in multimedia for Teaching Dance. It covers CD rom, Video CD and CD i as possible technologies, and, in particular, it explains the weaknesses of AVI movies in handling dance materials. Several examples of CD rom titles are described and elements of them demonstrated. Disco Dancing and Golf are shown in some detail. The possibilities of High End animation software are demonstrated with 3D Studio Max, before a brief introduction to Video CD and its use in delivering feature films. CD i is then dealt with by looking at USA 1994 (basically, text, database, stills & animation), The Renaissance of Florence (mostly excellent stills with voice overs) the game The Seventh Guest, and Full Swing (a golf coaching title). Finally, it is explained what Bedford Interactive do in Multimedia and Dance, and a series of our products are demonstrated
