Abstract:

This paper addresses the vital area of Primary Assets. These include Still Images, Video footage, Text of many kinds and drawings. All these assets will be in their original state, before any enhancements or derivations have taken place. In producing these primary sources, the importance of planning is crucial, in particular in the use of forms of storyboarding to bring them together into a coherent system. The role of the Pedagogic Director in overall control of all aspects of the production of these assets, and particularly the filming is stressed, not only to control them starting from sound pedagogic purposes, but also to think laterally and be ready to embrace new ideas and possibilities as they present themselves. A large number of principles are explained to do with reference views, audio assets, text, and drawings, which necessitate the development by authors of various tools – Text Editors, List Editors, Layout sheets, Synchro Editors and Laser discs as tools in reconciling timings from all sources.
